The Trail’ster is a concept car that gives an idea of what the future reserves for the Soul, the popular crossover Kia. Built from the same platform, it acquires the integral traction and a supplementary electric motor, to attract the attention of young buyers active lifestyle.

Visually, the Trail’ster differs from Soul mainly by its increased ground clearance, the beefier look (with prominent fog lamps and aluminum protection plates) and roof panel full-length canvas. The black wheels with red accents contrast with the white paint of the body, which wants to evoke the expanses of snow and adventures in the great outdoors.

Under the hood, there is a four-cylinder engine of 1.6 liter turbocharged. It produces 185 horsepower and 185 lb-ft. The system has integral traction appealed to an electric motor connected to the rear wheels, which gives more traction as required. When the two motors operate at the same time, the total power of Trail’ster is 220 hp. Since this is a hybrid vehicle with no mechanical link between the electric motor and the petrol engine, the range is only 5 km all electric mode. By cons, Kia promises a reduction of 30% of fuel consumption in routiere conduct.

Will we see appear a production version of this concept car? Without a doubt. Does it retain its electric motor complementary? It’s harder to say. Kia takes a good decision by focusing on integral traction, because it would position the Soul as rival apart entire face of the vehicles as the Jeep Renegade, especially for buyers who do not plan to roll off-road, but want anyway benefit from the extra traction. The fact confer on the Soul comparable consumption that hybrid is also interesting, but the cost of this technology could prove to be too high for the market entry of the range of crossovers.
