Despite the abandonment of the project of a 508 270 hp, Peugeot has not made a cross on a 508 sports. Both versions are in the pipeline : a 508 Hybrid from 250 hp and a Hybrid4 300 hp.
The presentation of the version plug-in hybrid 225 hp of the Peugeot 508 has opened the door to all the fantasies. In particular, a variant Hybrid R 350, or even 400 hp. In fact, Peugeot is preparing two sports versions… but not as powerful !
Between the concept of e-Legend, and a Peugeot 508 hybrid sports car, the manufacturer has fueled rumors on the World of the Self. And Jean-Philippe Imparato, boss of the brand, is not the last one to get in on the fun. But how to disentangle the true from the false ?
In addition to the version of 225 hp which will be released in the fall of 2019, the catalog Peugeot 508 will be a grind the more powerful 250-hp current 2020. As we announced in march 2018, Peugeot had scheduled a 508 1.6 PureTech 270-hp, a project that is past the hatch to the benefit of this plug-in hybrid from 250 hp. This last is not a call for big technical changes, since the extra power will be obtained with the 1.6 PureTech 225 hp that is already present in the 508 GT.
What about the 508 R hybrid ?
According to some foreign media, Peugeot will market a 508 R Hybrid at minimum 350 horsepower, taking reference on the 308 R Hybrid 500 hp that has never exceeded the state of concept. The question : Peugeot develops there a 508 hybrid 300 hp, Laurent Blanchet (manager of the future Peugeot) has sketched out a smile approver during an interview at the World of the Self. While adding that this version in the course of the study poses some technical problems.
In fact, the manufacturer wishes to transpose the hybrid system, four-wheel drive, 300 horsepower of the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 and DS7 Crossback E-Tense-to-the 508. Plausible, since it is manufactured in the same plant (Mulhouse) that the SUV of the DS. On paper, the deal seems to be an easy child. In fact, the architecture Hybrid4 has not been developed for the SUV, as their ground clearance allows you to house the battery
13,2 kWh instead of 11.8 kWh for the sedans) as well as the special rear. On a sedan, it is another pair of sleeves. If the 508 Hybrid4 300 hp is alive and well in the study, the project is not yet validated, and it would only be if the engineers find a solution that is economically viable.
