The Model will be an SUV smaller than the Model X, which will be produced from 2020.
After it announced its strong financial results for the year-end 2018, Tesla confirms that the presentation of its new SUV Model will take place in 2019, with a start of production for the following year.
During the third quarter of 2018, Tesla has finally managed to gain profit and this slope virtuous is expected to continue during the fourth quarter. This situation has helped the california firm to be able to speak with confidence of its future projects and to announce the impending arrival of its second SUV, the Model Y. A prototype of the new SUV have already been built and it has been validated, for a production that will not start, however not before 2020. The model should still be presented to the public as early as the month of march next.
Rest to know where this new vehicle will be produced. Because, with the assembly lines of the Model S, Model X and Model 3, instead, may come to miss in the factory in Fremont, California. Maybe that is what the Gigafactory, located in Nevada and for the moment for the batteries, which will host the production of this new SUV.
Competitor of the Jaguar I-Pace, and Mercedes EQC
The Model will be smaller than the Model X and should return to many of the components of the sedan Model 3, which will make its debut in Europe as early as the spring of 2019. It should, however, benefit from an all-new platform. As for the Model 3, several versions should be available, offering various levels of performance or autonomy.
Mercedes EQC Jaguar I-Pace
With a length of around 4.70 m, it should position itself as a rival to the Jaguar I-Pace and the latest Mercedes EQC. It could, however, be more modest on the tariff plan, if Tesla wanted to make a model more affordable, like the Model 3.
