After the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, it is now the Mercedes GLC is the SUV the fastest on the Nürburgring
In the war of the lap times on the Nürburgring, it is today the category of SUV that is in honour, the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S having beaten the record of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, with a time of 7’49″369.
The record of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio on the Nürburgring has held more than a year ! This is not so bad, when we see that one of the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ has recently been beaten, after only three months and few days…
But now, the SUV faster on the North loop is the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S, which has beaten the Italian more than 2 seconds, with a time of 7 minutes and 49,369 seconds. Recall that the two SUV’s are very close in terms of their characteristics, the GLC 63 S carrying a V8 4.0 twin-turbo 510 hp, while the Stelvio is equipped with a V6 2.9 biturbo engine providing the same power. Their format is also very similar (4,66 m long for the GLC and to 4.64 million for the Stelvio).
Now all that remains is to know how long the SUV Mercedes will retain its crown. But if, on paper, the Lamborghini Urus and the Maserati Levante Trofeo seem to be largely able to fight, it is not certain that their template of the colossus is an asset on this route very demanding.
Mercedes being very aggressive in the Ring
The brand with the star is particularly active on the Nürburgring in recent times, as it has also beaten the last month the record for a series production vehicle, four-seater, with its new four-door coupe AMG GT 63 S. The latter had achieved a time of 7’25″41.
All of this, let us imagine that Mercedes could try to beat by following the absolute record for a standard vehicle, with its new hypercar AMG One. This could undoubtedly enable to beat the oci to the Porsche and Lamborghini for a little while…
